Explosive ripe blackberry and mineral aromas lead to a dense, incredibly huge body, ripe cherries on the palate, with noble
tannins and a lengthy finish.
The vines that produce Cirsion come from four vineyards and range in age from 60 to 100 years. Grapes from certain very
old vine plots were found to begin polymerization of anthocyanins and tannins within the berry at the very end of the
ripening period before harvest. The Cirsion blend comprises wines vinified from select clusters from these plots. With an
eye to quality, yields are kept extremely low. Roda’s consulting enologists regularly taste the grapes to determine the
optimum ripeness levels and time of harvest. Carefully sorted bunches are gently crushed in basket presses, then a cold
soak extracts optimal color and tannins before a high-temperature fermentation and a long maceration. Cirsion is aged for
8 to 12 months in 100% new French oak barrels and 4 months in bottle. Annual production is very limited and Cirsion is
not produced every year.
|2006 was a very good vintage marked by good budding and setting. The summer began with a tremendous storm but dry
and cool conditions in August led into a September with unusually high temperatures.
