This sweet wine shows fresh, rich blackberry and cassis aromas. On the palate, it has a well-knit structure, with a velvety, luscious mouthfeel and smooth tannins.

The NV Bin No. 27 Ruby Reserve Port is a blend of typical Douro grapes held for four years in used French oak. It comes in with 97 grams per liter of residual sugar. This was a from a July 2018 bottling (although, unless you can read production stamps, that isn’t so easy to determine). This reliable old friend has reasonable everything-intensity of flavor, concentration and structure. That last one might be the best part, though, as it shows some pop on the finish. Dry and tight, this familiar brand does nicely at a very nice price. If you choose to age it, it can probably hold decently barring cork failures, but aging is not the point here.
A finely blended Port, this has a bristle of tannins up front, melding their chocolate richness with dried fruit flavors, ending clean and sweet. The wine’s lasting spice places it with a savory pumpkin pie.
Splendid nose of dried Mission fig, brown spice, stewed blackberries, brown sugar, dried flowers, and dried flowers. Sweet and luscious on the palate with fig paste and cassis notes that build onto a lasting, dark-fruited, and luxurious finish. - 2017 Ultimate Wine Challenge (Great Value)

Bin No. 27 is produced primarily from grapes from Fonseca?s own quintas in the Cima Corgo?exceptional fruit that results in a wine of high quality and consistency from year to year. In the winery, the newly developed, robotic “Port Toes? technology for treading the grapes allows the winery to maximize the quality of the fruit by imitating the traditional action of human feet and avoiding damage to the bitter grape seeds. Fermentation is halted by the addition of grape spirits before all the residual sugar has been fermented, creating a sweet, fortified wine. A ruby-style Porto blended from reserve wines selected for their intense depth of color and fruit character, Bin No. 27 is aged for four years in neutral wood vats before bottling.
